Baby

Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?

My baby doll. Small, bald, made of hard plastic. She had painted hair when I first got her. I still have her. We have been through a lot together. Her painted blue eyes are fading. Her head is yellowing with age. It’s the only original part of her, as her arms and legs have been replaced, even her torso. She needs a new(er) left leg. It keeps falling off, and there is a hole in her foot. Yet, she is still with me. I love that bit of plastic baby doll. It’s weird, I know, but I don’t care. I’m going to keep her for as long as she holds together or for as long as I can find or make replacement parts. I worry about her eyes. I have nightmares that she gets broken and cracked beyond repair. Then I wake up, and thankfully, she is still there.

Goals

I love the work I do, I love the people I serve, but I want more. Doing the work that I do–driving people around– I’ve come to realize that I really value autonomy. I want more control over what I do and when. I want my own thing. Plus, I want to get into something where I have the potential to help more people, to make more money, and to have a career I can do past typical retirement age. I have always wanted to become a mental health counselor. I started on that path, but life got in the way, and I’ve gotten lost, or at least, taken a detour.

I am ready to find that path again.

One of my goals for 2025 is to work on applying to a graduate program in counseling. I may not apply this year, but I am definitely going to start working towards my goal. The first step is acknowledging that goal and setting that intention.

Here is a link to the program I am shooting for:

Proud

I am excited and proud to announce my stepson passed his national registry exam to become a paramedic. This is awesome news! He has worked so hard on becoming a paramedic and I have heard the national registry is a difficult test to pass. He did it the first time!

I am also excited about some other steps my stepson has taken to help both himself and his family. They have all been through a lot of trauma and stress this last year or more so I hope things are finally on the upswing for them.
