I somehow stumbled upon a site called Camp NaNoWriMo a few weeks ago — it is an off-shoot of National Novel Writing Month. The site is cool and is something wish I would have thought of… it gets together all kinds of people to facilitate writing of novels. National Novel Writing Month is in November but they also have a couple of summer camp months (and I think some contest), August being one of them. You can sign up to be in a ‘Cabin’ with others for camp and they help you (as you help them) by critiquing anything you have written. I love it! I have not signed up for a cabin yet but I have been thinking of some ideas for novels. At work last night a great idea came to me in a flash…I am so excited for it is an awesome premise if I can pull it off. I thought about it all while I worked, made some notes…as soon as I got home I typed some stuff up and my idea is shaping up brilliantly! Now I need to work on some character sketches and do some research so I can really get going. I am not sure I can write a novel in a month (at least not a halfway decent novel — sure I can throw some words on 200 or more pages but I want it to be good) but I am going to have fun trying.
